Job Description
At Serve Robotics, we’re reimagining how things move in cities. Our personable sidewalk robot is our vision for the future. It’s designed to take deliveries away from congested streets, make deliveries available to more people, and benefit local businesses.
The Serve fleet has been delighting merchants, customers, and pedestrians along the way in Los Angeles while doing commercial deliveries. We’re looking for talented individuals who will grow robotic deliveries from surprising novelty to efficient ubiquity.
Who We Are We are tech industry veterans in software, hardware, and design who are pooling our skills to build the future we want to live in. We are solving real-world problems leveraging robotics, machine learning and computer vision, among other disciplines, with a mindful eye towards the end-to-end user experience. Our team is agile, diverse, and driven. We believe that the best way to solve complicated dynamic problems is collaboratively and respectfully.
Role Overview As a systems integration engineer, you are responsible for ensuring that our robot functions as intended and driving issues to resolution when it doesn’t. You will own the bring-up and test of new components and features for an autonomous sidewalk robot. You will serve as the glue of the organization, working across many teams and disciplines to help bring together the many pieces of a complex system into a single functional unit.
Responsibilities - Lead and complete complex integration activities (e.g. bring-up, calibration, characterization, tuning, test, transfer-to-manufacturing) across interdisciplinary hardware and software subject areas
- Lead interdisciplinary teams through complex root-cause analysis and resolution in which there are many possible root causes that involve various areas of engineering, using a structured approach for problem solving
- Improve scalability and execution efficiency by developing pragmatic processes, best practices, tooling, and ways of working
- Identify risks, opportunities, and gaps, across subsystems, projects, and disciplines; drive alignment on prioritization and follow through to resolution, adapting to different roles as needed
Qualifications - B.S., M.S., or Ph.D in Mechanical, Electrical, or equivalent engineering field
- 5+ years of experience in the design, integration, and test of electromechanical systems
- Fundamental knowledge of mechanical, electrical, and software engineering
- Experience developing and executing comprehensive, automated test protocols for electromechanical and/or robotic systems
- Experience in data analysis, including probability and statistical analysis techniques
- Hands-on approach to the test and debugging of electromechanical systems
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills for audiences ranging from technicians to senior executives
What Makes You Standout - Experience in one or more of the following industries: automotive, medical, aerospace, robotics
- Experience developing software scripts (Python, Bash) for automating hardware tests
- Experience working in Unix/Linux environments
- Experience scaling a complex electromechanical system from initial prototypes to full fledged production
