Key Responsibilities

As the Tool/Mold Maker, you will be responsible for creating and maintaining the molds and tools used in our injection molding process, as well as tools/fixturing used in the assembly process. The Tool/Mold Maker is essential in supporting the production team to ensure that molds and tools are produced efficiently and to the highest quality standards, impacting Engineered Medical Systems and the clients we support. You’ll have the opportunity to learn from the individuals that have played a part in building the business while helping thousands of people worldwide. Responsibilities include:

  • Produce, troubleshoot, and repair molds and tools used in plastic injection molding processes
  • Produce, troubleshoot, and repair fixturing and equipment to support assembly processes
  • Setup and operate various machines, including CNC mill and lathe, manual mill, manual lathe, drill press, grinding machine, and EDM sinker machine for mold repairs, tools, and fixturing
  • Utilize 3D CAM program (Mastercam) to produce and alter machining programs
  • Utilize a variety of hand tools, including (but not limited to) grinders, files, and various polishing tools
  • Utilize a variety of precision inspection equipment to ensure molds and tools meet specifications, including calipers, micrometers, depth gages, etc
  • Perform preventative maintenance on molds and tools and suggest repairs/modifications to the tool and/or parts
  • Collaborate with production team to ensure molds and tools are produced efficiently and effectively
  • Maintain records of work performed on molds and tools
  • Maintain a clean and organized work area

Qualifications and Skills

  • High school diploma or equivalent; vocational or technical school training in tool making preferred
  • Preferred experience of 3 years+ in plastic injection molding tool making
  • Preferred experience in: CNC mill/lathe, Sinker EDM, welding
  • Proficient in set up and operation of various machines
  • Proficient in analyzing engineering drawings
  • Proficient in 3D CAM/CAD programs (Mastercam experience preferred)
  • Strong knowledge of tool making materials, such as steel, aluminum, and plastics
  • Strong mathematical knowledge/aptitude
  • Proficient in the use of precision measuring instruments and equipment
  • Strong problem-solving and troubleshooting skills
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team
  • Strong attention to detail and ability to prioritize tasks effectively
  • Excellent communication skills and ability to work collaboratively with others

Requirements

  • Must be able to speak, read and write English
  • Must be able to sit, stand and/or walk for extended periods of time
  • Must be able to lift 50 lbs

Work Environment

  • Temperature-controlled facility with office and light manufacturing areas
  • Non-smoking environment with minimal safety hazards. Some exposure to chemical substances in manufacturing areas, but direct handling is not required
  • Company-provided smock and hairnet are mandatory in all controlled production areas
  • Closed toe/heel shoes mandatory in all controlled production areas
