What To Expect
Tesla is seeking a skilled and motivated Policy Advisor, Federal Energy to join our Policy Team in Washington, DC. This role will focus on advancing Tesla’s mission to accelerate the world’s transition to sustainable energy by supporting federal advocacy efforts related to residential solar energy and battery storage. The Policy Advisor will work closely with Tesla’s product, engineering, and operations teams to engage with Congress and federal departments and agencies, driving policies that promote the growth of residential clean energy products. What You'll Do Develop and implement strategies to advance Tesla’s mission in residential solar and battery storage with Congress, federal agencies, and non-traditional alliesEngage and build strong relationships with Congressional offices and federal agencies to promote Tesla policy prioritiesAnalyze, research, and develop policies across a wide array of legislative and regulatory issue areas, including but not limited to clean energy tax credits and incentives, grid integration, energy storage regulations, permitting processes, trade, and moreWork closely with Tesla’s internal teams, including product, engineering, and operations, to align federal policy initiatives with company goals and technical advancementsTrack federal legislative and regulatory developments related to residential solar and battery storage, providing timely updates and strategic recommendations to internal stakeholdersEngage with industry stakeholders, trade associations, and advocacy groups to build coalitions that support Tesla’s clean energy objectives
What You'll Bring Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent experienceFive to ten years of experience in federal policy, government relations, or a related field, with a focus on energy, environmental, or clean technology policy. Experience working with Congress or federal agencies (e.g., Department of Energy, Federal Energy Regulatory Commission) is highly desirablePrior working knowledge of residential solar energy systems, battery storage technologies, and related policy frameworks, including federal tax incentives, permitting, and trade issuesExcellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to synthesize and clearly communicate complex technical and policy informationStrong analytical skills with experience in legislative and regulatory researchHighly energetic personality with the ability to function autonomously in a fast-paced environment with changing priorities
