JOB SUMMARY:

  • Contributes to the Environmental Health & Safety team by directing a team of individual contributors, and is accountable for conducting effective performance management.
  • Develops tactical and operational plans and supports organizational objectives and business goals.
  • Prioritizes resources to meet objectives and goals of the health & safety area.
  • Advises operations regarding pivotal initiatives and serves as a primary point of contact for internal customers.

POSITION DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

Responsibilities may include, but are not limited to:

  • Shared responsibility with Plant Manager(s)/Site Leader(s) for EH&S performance at each site, including the development site corrective action plan to address EH&S program deficiencies and ensure EHS&S regulatory compliance.
  • Develop EH&S objectives for the business - auditing, analyzing, documenting, and reporting on their implementation and efficiency to management via dashboards & reports.
  • Lead site EH&S professional and consultants at local facility. Set goals and objectives and supervise team to manage goals/objectives/assignments, provide adequate mentoring/counseling, develop employee development plans, and provide recommendations as part of the succession planning, appraisal, and salary planning process.
  • Monitor and evaluate EH&S risks of operations, including change control, ensuring continuous improvement of the EHS&S program to make it leaner and more efficient. Provide upper management with ongoing consultation pertaining to EH&S regulations and identify any impact on key business objectives.
  • Support and facilitate site EH&S teams to ensure appropriate implementation; including collaborating with other teams to manage EH&S aspects of external manufacturers, suppliers and contractor programs.
  • Develop and implement EH&S training strategy for Raynham and Bridgewater, ensuring key risks and regulatory requirements are addressed for appropriate audiences, including new hires.
  • Maintain local ISO certifications by ensuring site EH&S management systems are aligned & maintained consistent with ISO and/or program standards.
  • Leads all aspects of the development and implementation of EH&S practices and procedures across the sites.
  • Mentors EH&S staff and management on ways to improve outcomes; assigns projects or activities to individual contributors.
  • Responsible for communicating business related issues or opportunities to next management levels.
  • Ensures that subordinates follow all Company guidelines related to Health, Safety and Environmental practices and that all resources needed to do so are available and in good condition.
  • Responsible for ensuring personal and Company compliance with all Federal, State, local and Company regulations, policies, and procedures.
  • Leads a culture of safety through a matrix of area owners, program leaders and safety committees that promote employee engagement and accountability.
  • Develops technical EH&S staff through mentoring and individual development plans.
  • Exercise the highest level of integrity in tasks performed.
  • Seek timely identification, reporting and correction of deviations in the workplace.
  • May coordinate the development/deployment of EH&S training.
  • Possesses an understanding of related EH&S subject areas. May formulate local policies, develop budget, and recruit EH&S professionals when required.
  • Develops collaborations with other functions (e.g., engineering, facilities, Operations, R&D, etc.) to ensure EH&S aspects and impacts are considered at the beginning of new/changing operations.
  • Helps develop sound science/strong technical solutions where the scope of the problems are well defined.
  • Review capital projects to identify potential EH&S issues and participate in remediation/resolution.
  • Supports environmental program including permit preparation and condition identification.
  • Conduct root cause incident investigations, workplace inspections and job safety analysis.
  • Recommends different approaches to improve EH&S; can communicate technical positions across all levels of the organization.
  • Responsible for execution of an EH&S Management System and lead programs and activities that drive continuous improvement sustaining ISO 14001 certification and improving EH&S performance.
  • Responsible for periodic reports and metrics ensuring that all pertinent documentation is prepared, maintained, and submitted in a timely manner to regulatory agencies, J&J, and Depuy Synthes according to applicable requirements.

EXPERIENCE AND EDUCATION

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent
  • 6-8 years of EH&S related experience
  • Medical device manufacturing/R&D (highly desirable) or related industry with strong regulatory oversight.
  • Technical experience in diverse EH&S areas including but not limited to machine safety, ergonomics, industrial hygiene, process risk assessment, training and chemical handling is highly desirable.
  • Demonstrate project management skills are required and individuals must have technical/working knowledge of federal, state and local regulations.
  • CSP, CIH, REM, CHMM or related EH&S certification preferred.
  • Proficient in MS Office software programs including Word, Excel, and PowerPoint preferred.
  • Internet, intranet and database tools (internal and external) as needed to support the EHS&S function preferred.

  • Ability to define and implement solutions with limited direction from his/her manager.

  • Ability to quickly interpret complex regulatory issues and provide recommended course of action.
  • Ability to work in a matrix, team-oriented environment.
  • Ability to lead local EHS&S professionals and manage additional multi-site EHS&S resources.

The anticipated base pay range for this position is :

$100,000- $173,500

Additional Description for Pay Transparency:

The Company maintains highly competitive, performance-based compensation programs. Under current guidelines, this position is eligible for an annual performance bonus in accordance with the terms of the applicable plan. The annual performance bonus is a cash bonus intended to provide an incentive to achieve annual targeted results by rewarding for individual and the corporation’s performance over a calendar/performance year. Bonuses are awarded at the Company’s discretion on an individual basis. Employees and/or eligible dependents may be eligible to participate in the following Company sponsored employee benefit programs: medical, dental, vision, life insurance, short- and long-term disability, business accident insurance, and group legal insurance. Employees may be eligible to participate in the Company’s consolidated retirement plan (pension) and savings plan (401(k)). This position is eligible to participate in the Company’s long-term incentive program.
