Meet the Founder
Penny’s Book Club was started by Penny Mtshali, inspired by her own story. Growing up in Umlazi, KwaZulu-Natal, reading for fun or beyond what school required wasn’t common, and libraries were hard to find in her community.
It wasn’t until Penny went to university and got her first library card that she discovered her love for books. That moment changed everything for her. Now through hosting Pennys Book club, Bookmarked Conversations Podcast and fun bookish events, she hopes to share the joy and benefits of reading with the community.

Pennys Bookclub is a vibrant community of readers offering engaging monthly meetings with trivia quizzes, guest appearances by local South African authors, and themed events like the “Blossom and Bloom Brunch.” It combines fun, insightful discussions, and a deep appreciation for books in a supportive environment
